I recently purchased several jars of salsa on sale (50 cents a jar!!) and finally got around to trying to dry salsa. Success!
I spread (as evenly as possible) one entire 16 ounce jar of salsa on a lined dehydrator tray and set the dehydrator to 135* and let it run. The other trays of the dehydrator were fully loaded as well.
About 4 hours later the salsa was dry enough to peel from the tray. It wasn't completely dried; there were still a few sticky spots. I pulled it from the tray and flipped it over. Back in the dehydrator it went.
About two hours later, I had fully dried salsa. I cut the salsa leather into 6 portions and put these in a zip locking plastic bag. One jar is *about* 6 servings of salsa, or so I figure. On the trail, I will shred the sheets further to rehydrate faster. You can cut the leather in pieces with shears or blend it in a food processor to make rehydration easier.
